This beautiful pit-bull has taken me approximately 6 hours of active work so far with another 1-2 hours left to go for the belly and right foot.
What inpires me
I have lost count as to how many dog portraits I have done now but they are my absolute favorite to create. Most of the time I am drawing an animal someone has recently lost so I take extra care to make sure the picture I choose for inspiration shows their personality.
What I use
I find that it helps to use pastel pencils to create a more realistic fur pattern. I have tried watercolors and acrylics but I keep coming back to pastels. I have also gone back and forth between water color paper and pastel paper and they both work well with soft pastels. I typically use two different brands of pastels, KALOUR and KOH-I-NOOR are great brands but i tend to favor KOH-I-NOOR more for a smoother finish.
