🍷 A Wine Story Worth Sharing
How a Blind Tasting in 1976 Changed the Wine World Forever
One of the things I enjoy most about the wine industry is that there is always something new to discover.
Recently, while reading a wine industry newsletter, I learned about the 50th anniversary of an event called the Judgment of Paris. The story was so fascinating that I wanted to share it.
In 1976, a blind wine tasting was held in Paris, France. The judges were some of France's most respected wine experts, and the competition featured French wines alongside wines from California.
The judges did not know which wines they were tasting.
Most people expected the French wines to win easily.
Instead, California wines received the highest scores in both the red and white wine categories.
The results surprised the wine world and helped change the global perception of American wines forever.
Today, many people recognize Napa Valley as one of the world's premier wine regions, and many wine historians point to the Judgment of Paris as a major reason why.
What I love most about this story is the reminder that great discoveries often happen when we keep an open mind.
Whether it's a new wine, a new hobby, a new place to visit, or a hidden treasure waiting to be found, sometimes the things we least expect become our favorites.
Fifty years later, the Judgment of Paris remains one of the most influential moments in wine history—and a wonderful reminder that curiosity can lead to something extraordinary.
🍷 Cheers to 50 years of wine discovery.
